Niche Marketing for a Home Based Business

Copyright 2005 Timothy Spaulding

If you have had your home business for any length of time you have realized that niche marketing is the key to make money online. And in this age of technology, niche marketing has become easier and harder at the same time. It is easier in the fact that computers and software programs have been designed to practically do all the niche marketing work for you, and is harder in the sense that if you try to go at it alone you will not be able to reach the number of people you might have been able to a couple of decades ago.

The reason for this is today people hit the Internet looking for something in particular and they generally begin looking on search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN and the like. The people searching for the particular information you provide on your web page may not be searching for it using the same words you use, might misspell the words, or not know how to specify what they are looking for at all. This can cause some significant problems for your web page. And this impacts your potential for increasing traffic or capturing potential traffic. However, there are several things you can do to make your web page a tool that will be returned as results when people search for information on your web page.

First, you will need to identify your niche in the marketplace and what keywords people use when searching within this niche. If you are experienced, you might already be familiar with the majority of keywords, however it is best to get a software program that will help you identify keywords for your particular niche.

Next, you will need to pack your web page with as many of these keywords as possible. It is almost impossible to contain every possible mixture of keywords, misspellings and phrases in your web page content, however a good web page will contain as many as possible and certainly all of the popular ones. Remember, in order to increase traffic to your page you must be diligent about creating and marketing a page that will return results.

The best way to include keywords is to write articles about them and use the keyword frequently in the article. This way, you will not only be providing useful information regarding your product or service, but you will also be using the keywords that will ultimately attract people to your page. Also, there are multiple software programs available that discuss the most successful niches, ones with little competition and how to market to these niches. This will be a powerful tool for you if you are just beginning a company. However, it might also be a good opportunity for you if you are looking to expand your current business, include new services or simply change niches. Regardless, there is a software program that will virtually do all the work for you. There is even a program that will tell you what people have been typing into search engines when looking for particular information in your niche. All of these programs certainly make niche marketing easier and can help you attract traffic to your web page by using the words that potential customers use when looking for your product or service.

Internet Marketing and Getting Your Site Noticed

Copyright 2005 Timothy Spaulding

You may have created the best Web site in the world, but unfortunately it will not do your home based business any good if no one sees it. Therefore, knowing how to market your site and getting your site noticed is incredibly important to the success of your home based business and to make money online. Obviously, marketing your web site is one of the most important activities you can spend your time on.

Fortunately, getting your site noticed does not have to be expensive so marketing on a tight budget does not prevent you from getting quality exposure.

The first thing you will want to do is pack your Web page full of keywords that people might use when searching for information contained in your site. The more keywords you have, or keyword phrases someone might use, the more often your site will be returned as a result for the person searching. The keywords should appear multiple times each on your web page and need to be context relevant, that is the keywords should be in your page title, article titles, section titles, paragraphs, links, etc. You want to be in the top 5 results posted as often as possible, so continually searching for keywords and keyword phrases and refining your web site will direct more traffic to your online home base business.

Also, once you have packed your page full of useful information and as many keywords as you and your thesaurus can think of, you will want to upload your URL to various search engines like Yahoo, Google, Excite, Alta Vista, and any specialized search engines that focus on your particular business or service. By including more keywords on your web site, when the search engines are searching for sites pertaining to the keywords entered in the search engine, your page will be listed as a higher result than others. This is very important because people generally check the first few web sites results and skip the others if they find the information they were looking. However, make sure the information you provide on your site is useful and you don’t just have a string of keywords to attract people to your page. If you have useful information about a product or service, people will look around. If all you have is a bunch of keywords and nothing that actually pertains to what the individual is looking for, they will leave and never come back. So, be alert to what you are offering potential customers and attentive to the way you bring them to your page.

If you have done all of the above, and are still interested in more traffic, then consider marketing your site on other related or non related sites by banners and the like. This is a way of letting individuals know about your product that might not be aware of it to even search for it. By advertising in this way you are reaching a sector of individuals who want and need your product, but were never aware of it.

There are multiple ways to market and of getting your web site noticed, just make sure you do it in a responsible way. Internet users are fed up with pop up ads, fly-ins, fly-overs, exit pages, spam e-mail and other unsolicited information. For instance, many people now have programs that block pop up ads, which means you are not even marketing. Finally, you don’t want to anger potential customers or have them close off their mind to your product, so be creative when you are marketing, aggressive and always respectful of current and future clients.

Home Based Internet Business: Researching for Niche Markets

Copyright 2005 Timothy Spaulding

So you have decided to start a home based business on the internet and want to find niche markets to promote to. If you are like many people you probably are not sure how to do the research. Nor are you sure if a niche market is open to additional competition and has a sizeable demand, or if the niche is closed off to new entry. The bottom line is there is almost always demand in niche markets, and if you feel the demand is being met then there is most likely demand for additional niches within that niche market. When researching niche markets and trying to decide what would be most profitable, you should first look at what you enjoy and would be best at doing day in and day out.

The reason you need to analyze your strengths and desires is because you want your home based business to be successful and profitable, and if you don’t enjoy what you do you will not be able to give it the attention it needs to grow, regardless of the demand within the niche. So, evaluate what you like, what your skills are, what services or products you can provide, and then begin figuring out the niche for your particular skills and products. If you don’t feel there is a high demand, or the market is already saturated, then consider altering your product or service a bit so there is a niche market for it. All you really need is a little creativity.

In addition, you will need to consider your competition. Research the Internet for other competitors and what they offer and how they offer it. Find a way to offer something more for less, or offer specialized products and/or services so they are not exactly like competitors. All of these actions will differentiate you from the rest.

Once you have decided on your niche market, or on several, you will want to come up with several hundred popular keywords that describe this niche market or that people might use when searching on search engines. Then, run these keywords through a program that will tell you their relevancy and how often they are searched for. A good web site for analyzing keywords is Nichebot. If you have several niche markets in mind, you will want to go with the one that is searched for the most because this one has the most demand. If you have only one in mind, make sure the number of people searching for your product or service will make it worthwhile for you to engage in it.

Don’t spend your time looking for niches that are completely wide open because they, for all intents and purposes, do not exist. Conversely, there are many niche markets that are under filled and could handle additional competition.

Once you have entered a niche market, always provide consistent and professional service, maintain your web page and products, change your marketing tools or products if necessary to react to new competition, and always be on the lookout. As long as you are a proactive and aggressive competitor you will find success.
